Here follows an overview of the six scenarios that you could read to see if you´re interested or not.
Some history background over the scenarios released in the Stavka Archives - scenario file #1.
Came up with the idea (2002) after playing a converted Basic Squad Leader Scenario that had been translated to ASL.
why? not convert the Deluxe scenarios with those meaty Order of Battles and at the same time update them to be more fun (and somewhat more balanced). Started to design them 2002 [EXC: Scenario 1A Blazing Borders we started with already 1997 for the fun of it and to make it more historically correct - if that can be said about a game].
Made the scenarios in the beginning for my own amusement (i.e., to play them with friends only) not to sell them to others.
The STAVKA ARCHIVES includes four former Deluxe scenarios that have been converted to regular scenarios that are played on standard map-boards.
They are very different in how they "play out" and even the names have been choosed in a way that are "somwhat similar" to the deluxe scenarios that have been converted.
One Swedish friend suggested to me to rewrite the historically text, change the picture and - juggle around - with the Order of Battle, would be quite easy to do.
But, the whole point is to show and at the same time pay tribute to the original designers - the creators of ASL, that also made these scenarios, that they are the inspiration source from the beginning.
The same way that people are converting Basic Squad Leader scenarios to ASL scenarios.
Then we have two more Stavka Archives - scenarios and the first one is an update of the Scenario BORDERS ARE BURNING to Stavka Archives version - BLAZING BORDERS, it is more historically correct -- no German MGs, No Finnish ATR (not available yet) , No Pipe Grenades (NA yet).
Besides that the scenario is also totally different in many other ways-- SSRs, VCs etc etc and because it is very large compared to the other five scenarios the playtesting have been something over the normal.
The last scenario among the six is SPOILS OF WAR, read about it and thought it sounded great to design a scenario about it.
Decided to make a Scenario pack in 2002. and 6 years later with over thousands of hours put into it by me and my 8 comrades they have finally made its debut.
Play-tested the scenarios nearly 60 times, besides that the amount of work laid down on the VCs , SSRs and set up text have been quite daunting -- Hope you found them to be clear and easily understandable -- know that others do.
Stavka Archives - scenario file #2 will be released 2011-2012 (or never, it depends) and the theme will always be East Front, but quite different in size, these scenarios have an layout with the basic concept-scripted so far.
In the future (2018+) if the response to the first four deluxe-conversions is a happy one,
then the remaining four large deluxe scenarios from 1986-87 may be converted to standard ASL scenarios are:
Deluxe ASL Scenario A - TO THE LAST MAN
Deluxe ASL Scenario 6 - DRACONIAN MEASURES
Deluxe ASL Scenario 8 - THE SCHOOLHOUSE
Deluxe ASL Scenario 10 - THE FINAL BATTLE
Then why not convert all East Front deluxe to standard mapboards?, well since the small scenarios "play out" quite good on the limited terrain that the deluxe boards have to offer compared to what I believe the large scenarios do on the same boards.
Lastly, not the first time I design scenarios have done 12 other scenarios that have never made it to the puplic eye of the ASL world. Have also laid down houndreds of hours to help the designers of FRIENDLY FIRE with 26 (of 40) of their scenarios - with proofing, playtests, rewrite of the VCs, SSRs and set up text and balance issues.
Look forward to hear your response of ASL experience and hopefully fulfillment while playing these scenarios.
